Halesowen Swimmers travelled to Oak Park on 8th July for the 3rd & final round of the Mercian League. The Mercian League, often a testing ground for new talent, saw a couple of ‘old hands’ take to the water to earn Halesowen valuable points – Head Coach Steve Hickman competed in the open age group 100m Breaststroke & 100m individual medley and was joined by Assistant Coach Ade Worton in the freestyle and medley relays. On the evening Halesowen missed out on victory by 1 point – but there was cause for optimism with wins across several age groups, winners were: Chloe Robbins won the very first race the open age group 100m individual medley; Caleb Darby, 10 and under boys 50m Freestyle; the 12 and under old girls relay team of Eleanor Stark, Libby Hickman, Audrey Hackett and Erin O’Grady proved unbeatable winning both the freestyle and medley relays – as did the 14 year old boys relay team of Oliver Bradley-Wood, James Gaskin, Dermot Cameron and Greg Sheppard. Adam Ryan won both the 12 and under boys 100m backstroke and 50m butterfly whilst Greg Sheppard picked up another win in the 12 and under boys 100m breaststroke. Audrey Hackett won the girls 10 and under 100m Freestyle; James Gaskin won the 14 and under boys 100m backstroke. The 10 and under boys won their medley relay with a team consisting of Jack Everton, Jack South, Caleb Darby and Ryan Worton. Many winners and so close to Halesowen winning the whole gala
