Halesowen Swimmers travelled to Leicester for the Braunstone Sports Trophy, the traditional opener of the new season. Having finished a disappointing 4th last year Halesowen were hoping to bounce back in 2018. Club captain Josh Bradley got the team off to a fine start, as he so often does, winning the 100m men’s individual medley. Later in the gala Josh comfortably won the 100 breaststroke and then rounded out the gala by being in the victorious men’s relay team joined by Jack Simpson, Ryan Larkin, Mark Laing, Rob Jennings and 13 year old Jacob Bailey. Jack Simpson and Katie Morrice were dominant winners of the mens/womens 100m freestyle races. Adam Ryan led from start to finish in the 13 and under boys 100m backstroke. There was real hope for the future with three different event winners in the youngest age group, the 11 and unders; Grace Guy in the girls 50m butterfly, Jack South in the boys 50m breaststroke and Ryan Worton in the boys 50m freestyle. On the evening Halesowen finished a much more creditable 2nd place behind hosts Braunstone – a result which brings much anticipation for the season ahead.
